Sales Tax Summary for Travelers to Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania State Sales Tax: 6%

Philadelphia and Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) have an additional 1%

Pennsylvania Hotel Occupancy Tax: 6% + 1%

A City or County also has the ability to create their own tax

 

Pennsylvania Exemption Procedures

There is an exemption for Pennsylvania 6% State Sales Tax (meals, etc).

There is no exemption for hotel occupancy tax.

Purchases must be paid for with a check or credit card in the name of the exempt organization.

To apply for exemption, REV -72 must be filled out. http://www.revenue.state.pa.us/revenue/lib/revenue/rev-72.pdf

Once approved, a multi-digit number (called a "75" number) will be assigned by the state, and
can be put on Form Rev-1220 AS for use when purchasing. http://www.revenue.state.pa.us

 

Hotel Instructions
  1. Network Hotels: Participating 501(c)(3) institutions will be pre-enrolled at all CTM Network
    hotels for purposes of sales tax waiver. Should traveler lose or forget tax exempt documentation,
    CTM back-up copies will be available.

  2. Out-of-Network Hotels: Participating 501(c)(3) institutions will not be enrolled at Out-of Network hotels.
    Should traveler lose or forget tax exempt documentation, CTM cannot guarantee waiver of sales tax.
